Parental Controls also features a new Log Viewer feature that records attempts to access restricted sites based on user profile and an improved antispam function which will retrieve and merge pre-existing white and black lists from Outlook email addresses and pre-defined Norton anti-spam lists.

Norton 360 version 2.0 also comes with Norton Identity Safe. This securely stores passwords and personal information as well as offering one-click log-in to trusted sites. The Network Monitoring function checks the status of wireless security, maps connected devices and alerts users if they are connected to an unsecured network.

The software also includes Symantec’s patent-pending Browser Protection technology, which defends against drive-by downloads and other new or unknown threats that exploit vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer.

Symantec says the antivirus and antispyware applications and firewall intrusion protection have all been improved while Norton 360’s antiphishing and web authentication functionality has now been extended to include the Firefox browser.

The online backup service offered by Norton 360 has been expanded to include Blu-Ray, iPods, HD-DVD discs, or shared drives, in addition to internal drives, CD/DVD drives, USB drives, mapped network drives and external hard drives.

Users can also make use of a registry file cleanup to optimises PC performance, a diagnostic report function for easy system troubleshooting and problem solving and one-click support, which offers a direct link via telephone, e-mail or 24x7 live chat to Symantec’s support technicians.

Norton 360 Version 2.0 will be available from the Symantec Online Store from April.

A one-year subscription that can be used on three PCs and includes Symantec’s protection updates and 2GB online storage space costs £59.99. A Premier Edition that comes with 10GB online storage space will cost £69.99.
