Sanyo has announced a £499 HD camcorder with many image-optimisation features usually found in digital cameras. The Sanyo VPC-HD1010 HD camcorder is onsale in the UK this month.
Sanyo was at the forefront of the camcorder and digital camera crossover trend and continues to produce sturdy, compact and good-looking hybrids.

The VPC-HD1010 is, first and foremost, a high-resolution digital camcorder capable of recording 1,920x1,080 footage as Mpeg4 or AVC/H.264 formats at 30 frames per second. However, the HD1010 is also a 4Mp digital camera with a 10x zoom (38 to 380mm). There is also a 10x digital zoom.
Footage and photos can be composed on its 2.7in LCD display. This can be rotated through 285 degrees. The camera sensor can capture up to 7 frames per second. A face chaser function helps operators follow the action and there are anti-blur and redeye reduction functions. Photos can be taken even while video recording is in progress.
