Canon enters mirrorless compact system camera market

Canon has announced the EOS M, its first mirrorless compact system camera (CSC).

The firm aims to offer DSLR quality within a compact body with the EOS M. The digital camera will be released in September in the UK with a starting price of £769 in various colours including black, white, silver and red. See also: Photo advisor.

Canon said: "Offering DSLR-quality imaging, creative features and Full HD movie creation in a compact and easy-to-use model, the EOS M is the perfect, take-anywhere partner for a new breed of enthusiasts who chronicle their lives through images, without necessarily considering themselves to be ‘photographers’."

The EOS M features an 18MP APS-C hybrid CMOS sensor, full HD video recording and a 3in LCD touchscreen. Canon's latest addition to its range will rival Sony's NEX-F3.

Users have versatility when it comes to the EOS M since it offers interchangeable lenses. It uses the EF-M type but using the EF-EOS M Mount Adapter enables the use of more than EF lenses.
