Panasonic unleashes its Lumix DMC-GF5

A compact camera with the World's fastest autofocus

Panasonic has unveiled the Lumix DMC-GF5, its latest addition to the family of digital cameras.

The Lumix GF5 has been designed to give professional quality images and Full HD video from an ultra-compact body. Panasonic claims it's small enough to fit on your pocket and has the World's fastest autofocus at 0.09 seconds.

Barnaby Sykes, product manager of Lumix G at Panasonic said: "We have designed the Lumix GF5 for people who want professional results without being forced to carry a bulky and complicated DSLR – people who want to push the limits of creative photography without compromising on style."

Apart from a compact form factor and speedy focus, the GF5 offers a 12.1Mp Live MOS sensor, a built-in flash and an interchangeable lens system. It also has a high resolution 3-inch LCD touchscreen and comes in black or white.

Panasonic has improved its Venus Engine with multi-process noise reduction and said the Lumix GF5 will produce 'stunning image quality' even in low light conditions. The camera will suggest various settings depending on the conditions.

The firm has also developed an app for the Apple iPad to go with the Lumix G series of cameras. Panasonic said it should be available in June starting at around £449.
