Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 digital 3D camera unveiled

Capture 2D or 3D content at the flick of a switch

Panasonic has unveiled the Lumix DMC-3D1 digital camera, which features twin lenses offering the ability to capture high-resolution 3D images and video.

The two 25mm lens units, which feature 4x optical zoom, ensure users can capture 8Mp still images and 1920x1080 video footage in 3D or 2D images at 12.1Mp and HD video, by simply using a dedicated switch on the rear of the device. 3D content can be played back on a 3D TV or Blu-ray Disc Player/Recorder that supports the AVCHD format, either by inserting the memory card from the camera into the TV/Blu-ray player, or by connecting the digital camera via HDMI. Furthermore, the twin lenses also allow users to capture images and videos from different angles simultaneously.

The camera also benefits from a 3.5in touchscreen display, along with Panasonic's Megal OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) technology to reduce blur caused by hand shake, macro mode and the Intelligent Handheld Nightshot function that lets users capture video at night without the need for a tripod.

Measuring 108x59x24mm and weighing 193g with the battery, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1also features a self-timer, digital re4d eye-removal and use of the zoom during video capture. The built-in memory of 70MB can be expanded with an SD memory card. Panasonic also says the lithium Ion battery offers around 200 shots from a full charge. A built-in flash and stereo microphone complete the digital camera.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 will be available from December this year. Pricing details have yet to be released.
