Sony HX100V 3D digital camera

Sony has launched two new HX series cameras that offer Full 1920x1080p HD video capture at 50 frames per second and that are capable of shooting video and photos in 3D.

The Sony HX100V and Sony HX9V are location-aware so you can use the GPS and compass built in to them to automatically tag where each shot was taken. Both are 16.2Mp compact cameras.

The HX100V sports a 30x optical zoom and while the HX9V has a 16x zoom capability. Sony includes three types of image stabilsation including SuperSteadyShot. Hard-to-avoid movements such as that of walking are specifically compensated for. The HX100V is described as the "flagship" model in Sony's new range as, as such, boasts the superior Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar optics. The HX9V model takes a Sony G lens and is a trim 105mmx59mmx34mm. It weighs 215g.

The HX100V is a 27mm model while the HX9V has a 28mm wideangle lens. Images are composed on a 3in 921K-dot LCD. Shot to shot  time is kept to a minimum with a Bionz processor. Although it has relatively slim propoprtions (122mm x 87mm x 93mm), Sony says the HX100V is designed to mimic the shape and proportions of a digital SLR model in a smaller frame. Even so, it weighs a hefty 525g.

For added interest, the Sony HX100V can be mounted on the rotating PartyView stand to capture all the action
