Ricoh CX5 10Mp camera

Ricoh has announced a fifth model in its CX compact camera range. The 10Mp Ricoh CX5 is boh a 28mm wideangle camera and has a 10.7x zoom that can stretch to 300mm.

A faster autofocus of 0.2 seconds allows for more impulsive shooting than on previous cameras in the range. Ricoh says this is down to the use of a hybrid autofocus engine. Image composition is via the CX5's 3in 920K-dot LCD. Once a shot has been framed, the camera can track the movements of a subject and keep them in focus as the camera follows them.

Both still and video capture are supported, although the HD video shooting turns out to be limited to 1280x720p. Continuous shooting at up to 5 frames per second is possible, as are macro shots as close as 1cm from the subject.

The 29mm-thick camera has 14 built-in scene modes. Although some are fairly standard such as landscape, portrait and night portrait, they also include scene modes for cooking, fireworks and 'continuous golf swing'. The £259 camera goes onsale in the UK at the end of February.
