JVC has been making hard disk and solid state camcorders for years, but its Picsio range are aimed at consumers who want point, shoot and share convenience. These latest models can shoot proper 1920x1080 HD video and come with an internal memory to store it.
If you’re keen to show off your videoing skills as soon as possible, you can plug in your Picsio to the nearest HDMI-equipped laptop or TV screen and display the footage directly.
The GC-WP10 model is waterproof to 10 feet and has a 3in touchscreen. JVC believes this will make it easier for soggy paws to find the right control buttons to hit. Menu items slowly scroll horizontally across the camcorder’s screen so there’s no need for a fiddly selection menu system. Footage can be uploaded to a personal website thanks to support for wireless EyeFi cards and can also be sent to YouTube or Vimeo. A 5Mp stills option is part of the JVC Picsio’s setup.
A similar, non-waterproof edition of the camcorder, the JVC Picsio GC-FM2 has just onsale in the UK, with the Picsio GC-WP10 scheduled for launch at the end of September.
