Canon Digital Ixus 200 IS compact camera

Canon has unveiled the Digital Ixus 200 IS - its first compact camera with a touchscreen. The Digital Ixus 200 IS will cost £329.

As well as using the 3in touchscreen to access the camera's menus, when composing an image users can tap a face that's in shot on the screen to make that person the focus of the photo. The subject chosen will be tracked automatically by the camera until your take your snap.

The 12.1Mp camera has a 5x optical zoom. It is also the first Canon Ixus digital camera to come with a 24mm wide-angle lens. To review the images you have taken, simply tilt the camera from side-to-side.

Tapping the screen when reviewing images also allows you to erase, protect, rotate or tag your favourite photos.

The camera also benefits from Smart Auto mode that identifies the conditions in which you are shooting and selects the best scene mode for the conditions.

Available in blue, gold, purple, or silver, the Canon Ixus 200 IS is priced at £329 and will be available from September.

Canon has also launched the Ixus 120 IS - a 12Mp digital compact camera with a 28mm lens, which Canon says is its slimmest-ever wide angle camera.

Users will benefit from a 4x zoom , a 2.7in LCD to compose and review images on, as well as Smart Auto mode. Available in black, blue, brown or silver, the Canon Isus 120 IS is priced at £299 and will also be available from September.
