Sony Cyber-shot TX1 and WX1 digital cameras

Sony has unveiled two new 10.2Mp Cyber-shot digital compact cameras that work with its Party-shot IPT-DS1 dock.

The Sony Cyber-shot WX1 is a 10.2Mp model with 5x optical zoom and 2.7in LCD. The Cyber-shot TX1 has a slightly less capable 4x optical zoom. Both models have Carl Zeiss lenses. They can be used with the Party-shot dock - a "personal photographer" for capturing group shots.

Insert either Sony Cyber-shot camera into the dock of the IPT-DS1 and it will pan and tilt the camera while adjusting zoom settings and automatically composing images. The Party-shot dock makes use of the face-detection and Smile Shutter features of both cameras to recognise and track faces.

Both cameras are capable of continus burst shooting at 10fps (frames per second) and can capture 30fps HD video. A Sweep Panorama button on both models takes a high-speed burst of images that are then assembled as a panorama. Sony says this feature is for capturing wide landscape shots.

The Sony Cyber-shot TX1, WX1 and Party-shot IPT-DS1 will be available from September. Prices have yet to be announced.
