Samsung 12Mp IT100 compact digital camera

Samsung has launched a £229 compact digital camera that packs a 12Mp CCD (charge-coupled device) and has a 3in LCD for previewing and composing images.

Designed for point-and-shoot photography, the Samsung IT100 camera can also shoot high-definition video footage. Samsung includes a patented 'pause and record' video-capture function to help prevent judder being caused by the action of the shutter.

The Samsung IT100 camera has a 28mm wideangle lens, a 5x optical zoom and a Smart Auto scene-recognition function that responds to the lighting conditions to take well-lit and sharply detailed shots. A built-in image stabiliser assists with this.

Face-detection, both blink and smile detection and a Beauty Mode that retouches and smoothes skintones are also included. And for those who enjoy being in front of the camera as much as they do taking photos, there's a self-portrait mode that beeps when your face is suitable framed.

Available in the UK from April, the Samsung IT100 will have an RRP of £229 including VAT. Silver, black and red versions will be offered. The same model is launching in other countries under the name SL820.
