Toshiba Camileo H20 and P30 digital camcorders

Toshiba has unveiled the Camileo H20 and the Camileo P30 - two new high-definition digital camcorders that can also capture 5Mp digital photos.

Both Toshiba Camileo models have a night mode that enhances their ability to pick out detail in low-light, when recording either video footage or taking still images.

The pocketable camcorders also have a special-effects function that can be used to switch from colour to black and white or negative mode shooting.

The £179 Toshiba Camileo H20 is a barrel-shaped camcorder with a 5x optical and a 4x digital zoom. Measuring 117x56x65mm, the camcorder captures video at a resolution of 1,440x1,080p and has a flip-out 3in LCD display that can be used to preview clips.

The 104x82x38mm Camileo P30 has a 5x optical and a 2x digital zoom and features a flip-out 2.5in LCD screen for previewing video. As with the H20, video is recorded at a top resolution of 1,400x1,080p. The P30 will cost £149.

Both camcorders have 128MB of internal flash memory, expandable via an SDHC (Secure Digital high capacity) memory card up to 32GB. They also come with an HDMI output so they can be attached to an HD TV and video played back straight from the camera.

Toshiba provides each model with a software bundle that includes the ArcSoft video editor. There is also a YouTube uploading function so fotoage can be posted straight to the video-sharing website.

The Camileo P30 and H20 will be available from Toshiba in February.
