Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000, VPC-FH1, VPC-WH1 and VPC- TH1 'dual cameras'

Sanyo has introduced six new Xacti-branded camcorders, set for launch in the UK in March. All are billed as 'dual cameras', capable of recording high-definition video as well as taking photos.

The Sanyo VPC-FH1 and VPC-HD2000 record 1080i video - interlaced 1,920x1,080 pixel resolution at 60fps (frames per second), with an option for 1080p as well. They take 8Mp still images and have 3in wide LCD displays, along with a 10x optical zoom lens, digital image stabilisation and a 'face chaser' feature that automatically recognises subjects.

These two models will cost around £549 inc VAT and will come with an HDMI output and optional lenses, while the HD2000 has an external microphone input.

Lower down the line-up in terms of specifications are the Sanyo VPC-TH1 and VPC-CG10. These two models record video at 720p (1,280x720 pixel) resolution at 30fps. Billed as compact HD models, the VPC-TH1 distinguishes itself by having a horizontal configuration. It has a 30x optical zoom lens, can handle 2Mp sequential shooting at 13fps. It has a 3in LCD display and 3 hour 20 minute battery life.

The VPC-CG10, meanwhile, is a more usual upright model that can take 10Mp photos and has a 5x optical zoom. As before, image stabilisation and face chaser features are included. This model will cost in the region of £229.

Finally, Sanyo introduced two waterproof models to the Xacti HD dual camera lineup. The VPC-WH1 and VPC-CA9 both shoot 720p video. The CA9 should be available from March, while the WH1 is more likely to launch in the UK in April.

The VPC-WH1 works up to 10ft underwater and can record up to an hour of footage. It has a 30x optical zoom, 2.5in display, shoots 2Mp photos and has an HDMI output. The VPC-CA9 is waterproof up to 5ft for one hour, shoots 9Mp photos, has a 5x optical zoom and a 2.5in display.

The VPC-WH1 and VPC-CA9 will be priced around £379 and £349 respectively.

Sanyo UK business manager for digital cameras, Phil Williams, said, "With the Xacti brand, Sanyo created a new market segment based on the concept of being able to take both high quality videos and photos with one simple, compact camera.

"The 2009 Xacti range builds on this with the addition of three cameras available in a new horizontal form, expanding the options available to users while retaining Sanyo's proprietary technology and know-how in digital imaging."
