Canon EOS 1000D 10.1Mp digital SLR camera

Canon has announced a brand-new digital SLR camera. The Canon EOS 1000D will retail for £499 for the body only or £579 with an 18-55mm lens. It goes onsale in July.

The Canon EOS 1000D is a 10.1Mp camera that uses a Digic III image processor and is able to shoot up to three frames per second. Shots can be composed on the EOS 1000D's 2.5in Live View LCD while photographic efforts are assisted by the inclusion of a seven-point autofocus. There is also a built-in image stabilisation function to prevent blur.

Photos are stored to either an SD (Secure Digital) or SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) flash memory card.

Two of the AF modes can be used simultaneously with the Live View mode. The histogram can also be used during live previews.

"The EOS 1000D is a small camera with a big idea: the supreme adaptability and image quality of the EOS system, in an accessible, affordable package," said Mogens Jensen, head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. "For anyone ready to take the next step in creative photography, it offers the perfect entry point to the world of dSLR."

As well as full manual controls for the more advanced user, Canon includes six camera presets – standard, portrait, landscape, neutral, monochrome and faithful. These can be used depending on how and whether any image post-processing will be done.

The Canon EOS 1000D will be available from the end of July. It will cost £499.99 for the body only or £579.99 for the Canon EOS 1000D with 18-55mm IS lens kit.
