Western Digital has launched a new version of its MyBook World Edition network attached storage device

The MyBook World Edition II NAS drive two mirrored drives in a RAID 1 configuration. This setup ensures that data is automatically and continuously backed-up. If one drive fails, a copy of all its data will automatically be stored on the mirrored drive.

Available in 2 or 4TB capacities, the drive's data can be accessed from any PC using a web browser. It can also be used to stream media stored on the drive to any PC or media player connected to the network.

Western Digital says it has focused on making the  World Edition II drives very quiet in operation and has reduced the power consumption by 33 percent over the previous version of the hardware.
