PLDS iHES206 internal Blu-ray drive

PLDS - the alliance of Philips and Lite-On Digital Solutions - has launched a 6x internal Blu-ray drive. The PLDS iHES206 can also be used to record to standard CD and DVD discs.

The PLDS IHES206 features a SATA (serial ATA) interface and LightScribe technology. LightScribe is a feature of some DVD writers that uses the laser to inscribe a label or image on the disc's surface, obviating the need for a stick-on label describing its contents.

The PLDS iHES206 drive can burn DVD+/-R at 16x, DVD +/-R DL and DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x and a DVD-RAM at 12x.

"This is the perfect upgrade for those users who want to playback high-gefinition movies on their PC," said Jelmer Veldman, marketing manager for Lite-On Europe.

Available from November, the IHES206 will be priced at £109 and can be purchased from Computer Connections.
