Solwise Hametech 3G-A10 mobile hotspot

Connect multiple phones and laptops using a single 3G SIM

Networking hardware company Solwise has announced a new mobile hotspot device. The Solwise Hametech 3G-A10 is a battery-powered 3G Wi-Fi router and modem that is small enough to slip into a pocket or handbag.

The £79 portable Wi-Fi router works on the 2.4GHz spectrum. To use it, you insert a 3G SIM card such as the one from your smartphone. The device is not restricted to a particular mobile network. The Solwise 3G-A10 is then able to provide mobile web access for up to 20 devices at once. Security includes a built-in firewall as well as both WEP (wired equivalent privacy) and WPA (wireless protected access) but not WPA 2. Encryption stretches to 128bit.

Solwise says connection rates of up to 150Mbps may be enjoyed using the mobile hotspot. The device weighs 88g and measures 94x62x15mm.

Huawei makes a similar mobile hotspot device that is sold under its own brand and through mobile operators under the name MiFi
