Will there be a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active?
After months of speculation and rumours, the Galaxy S6 Active is now official, following the regular Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. Various leaks and even Samsung's own website pointed towards the device.
"With the Galaxy S6 active, we're delivering consumers with high durability coupled with the powerful performance of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone," said Tim Baxter, president of mobile at Samsung America. "The result is a smartphone that brings ruggedized capabilities and water resistance coupled with the camera, battery and design features that empower our consumers and business users to do more."
Samsung Galaxy S6 Active UK release date and price
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is now official thanks to a video (below) posted by AT&T and now we have a press release from Samsung, we can confirm the device is exclusive to the US network.
We can now tell you that it will launch on 12 June priced at $199 on contract - that's on AT&T anyway with UK specific information still nowhere to be seen. We'll update this article as soon as we find anything out worth sharing but we expect the new phone to be around the £600 mark if it comes here.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Active specification
As you can see, one of the main differences between the Galaxy S6 Active and the regular models is the rugged design which has an IP68 waterproof rating. That's why the device looks a little bit insane like a Galaxy S6 with a chunky case put on. There are also three physical buttons rather than just the home button (it doesn't have the fingerprint scanner).
The IP58 rating means you can plunge it into up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes and the device is also shock resistant and dust proof.
Like its counterpart, the Galaxy S6 Active features a 5.1in Quad HD SuperAMOLED screen and Samsung's Exynos 7420 octa-core 64-bit processor. It also has a 16Mp rear camera, 5Mp front facing camera, 32GB of storage wireless charging and Android 5.0 Lollipop. A new 'Activity Zone' means you'll be able to quickly launch a compass, torch and stopwatch.
Samsung touts it, as you might expect, for those with an 'active lifestyle' and it will come in camo white, camo blue and grey models. The battery is larger than the other S6 models at 3500mAh
