OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus Two for 2015, and it could be here next week. Here's all we know

OnePlus Two UK release date, price and specs rumours: OnePlus Two confirmed for June 2015

When is the OnePlus Two coming out? The OnePlus 2 (or OnePlus Two) has been confirmed for 2015, and it could be here next week. Here's where we put together in one place all the information we have on the OnePlus 2's UK release date, price and specs. Also read our OnePlus One review and OnePlus Power Bank review.

Back in July 2014 talk of bacon and lettuce led the masses to begin questioning the possibility of a OnePlus Two. (Bacon refers to the CyanogenMod software running on the OnePlus One.) Nothing came of it at the time, but finally the OnePlus Two has been confirmed for 2015. OnePlus is also working on a second model, which could be a OnePlus Mini. OnePlus Two UK release date: When is the OnePlus 2 coming out?

Carl Pei, the 25-year-old co-founder of OnePlus, told our sister title PC World that we can expect to see the OnePlus Two in about six months, giving it a June 2015 release date. However, as we have seen with the OnePlus One, supply and demand will likely be something of a problem. Although the company is now much larger and has learned from its experiences with its first smartphone, Pei said it will be cautious not to overproduce.

Speaking to Android Headlines, OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus Two is set to arrive in the second or third quarter of 2015.

"Internally, we’ve changed the release windows 4 or 5 times. But we’re planning to have it available in Q2 or Q3. There’s a lot more expectations on us this time, a lot more pressure," said Pei.

But you won't have to wait until then to find out more details about the OnePlus 2 - OnePlus has just announced via its Twitter account that it's ready to shake up the phone market once again on 1 June.

Pei has also confirmed that there would not be a OnePlus One tablet, but the company is working on a second model - we reckon it'll be a OnePlus Mini.

OnePlus Two UK: Will I need an invite?

Yes. OnePlus has now made the OnePlus One available without an invite any day of the week, but has at the same time confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will also use the same system.

OnePlus said: "With the experiences we’ve gained with the One, we will be far more prepared to make the same transition with the OnePlus 2. Yes, the 2 will initially launch with invites. We’re committed to maintaining razor-thin margins in order to give as much value as possible back to our users, and this drastically increases our risk." "The OnePlus 2 will bring the challenges that come along with a brand new product, and initially, our invite system will help us to manage that risk. It also helps us to be sure that every OnePlus 2 user gets the amazing experience that they deserve."

OnePlus Two UK price: How much will the OnePlus 2 cost?

As with all Chinese smartphones on the market, with the OnePlus Two you can expect a premium phone with a mid-range price. We expect the price to fall in line with the OnePlus One, which costs around £229 for the 16GB model, and certainly no more than £300. We'll update this article as more information becomes available.

OnePlus Two: specification rumours

Although nothing has yet been officially confirmed about the OnePlus Two's spec, Pei said we will be surprised: Rather than taking on 2015 flagship's in terms of spec, it will do so in design. Could OnePlus be about to produce the first truly affordable Quad HD smartphone? Or will it have a unibody metal chassis?

It's probably fair to say the spec will not be any less of that of the OnePlus One, although rather than matching the spec of the Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC One M9 and Sony Xperia Z4 we might be looking at something a little less powerful but just as pretty.

Now we are able to give some idea as to the spec of the OnePlus Two thanks to GizChina which states the second generation will retain the screen size of 5.5in. However, a second device could be offered with a smaller display which is similar to other smartphone makers' strategy including Apple and Sony.

Although the main model looks set to stay at 5.5in, the resolution could be bumped to 2K and the overall size of the handset should be smaller anyway. Other rumoured specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor matching the LG G Flex 2, a whopping 4GB of RAM and a large 3300mAh battery.

Pei said: "We’ve actually changed the display size several times as well. The final product will surprise people."

OnePlus unveils OxygenOS for the OnePlus Two / OnePlus 2

OnePlus Two OxygenOS

Rather than Cyanogen the OnePlus Two will run the company's own OxygenOS. It will be open, customisable and free of bloat, according to OnePlus. The company says that by creating its own OS they will see the following benefits:

"We can offer better localization and faster updates. We can directly implement user feedback and make it easy for the OnePlus community to shape our ROM and create the OS that they want to use. Integration between hardware, software, and the cloud will become more seamless and unified for everyone using a OnePlus device. By creating our own software, we’re better able to work directly with our users to improve our OS. It’s something we’ve become quite fond of saying: when we work together, amazing things happen."

So why Oxygen? "Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it’s also extraordinarily powerful," said the company.

More information on OxygenOS is coming today (12 February), said the company with the following teaser. We're awaiting the announcement (tipped to be but clearly not at 10am) and will update this article with more details as they arrive.

We now know that photo is of the OxygenOS team, shown in colour below. It has taken on board some Android experts to help it create its new ROM, and introduces the team members in its blog.

OnePlus has also revealed its new logo.

OnePlus new logo

"With a familiar shape and design, the OxygenOS logo is dominated by red, contrasting the negative space that characterizes the OnePlus logo. Together, these designs represent the harmony between hardware and software, working to create a perfect balance within the OnePlus ecosystem," said OnePlus.

OnePlus didn't confirm when OxygenOS would be ready, since it doesn't want to rush it, but did say it would be clean and free of bloatware for maximum performance and efficiency.
