The Lumia 1020 camera comes with a Xenon flash and an F/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens – it actually has six lenses. The Lumia 1020 will be pre-loaded with Nokia's Pro Camera app providing manual controls such as white balance, ISO, focus, shutter speed. It even has manual focus. Like other Nokia smartphones, it has optical image stabilisation but second generation for even less chance of blurry snaps. See also: Group test: what's the best Windows phone?

Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, calls it "the next chapter in smartphone photography."

The camera is capable of shooting Full HD 1080p video, complete with 4x zoom which increases to 6x at 720p. 'Dual capture' means the camera takes to images at once, one a 5Mp and one at full resolution. Read: Best phone camera: smartphone camera photos and videos tested.

An optional $79 Camera Grip snap-on shell accessory provides a casing for the device making the handset feel like a proper camera and has an extra battery, shutter button and a tripod mount. There will also be a wireless charging shell.

The smartphone comes in yellow, black and white and like the Lumia 925 it has a 4.5in AMOLED screen and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It almost goes without saying that the Lumia 1020 runs on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8. There's 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Connectivity includes 4G LTE, HSPA+ (plus GSM/EDGE), as well as Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and NFC.

A price and a release date (beyond 'this quarter') for the UK are still to be confirmed by Nokia. It's coming to AT&T later this month on 26 July for $299 on a contract for reference.
