Huawei Ascend P2
Huawei has at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona unveiled its Ascend P2 smartphone, which it claims is the world's fastest 4G LTE smartphone. The 8.4mm-thick Ascend P2, available in black or white, will go onsale globally in the second quarter of 2013 for around £345 SIM-free. See all smartphone reviews.
The Huawei Ascend P2 is a Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone, featuring Huawei's own Emotion user interface and powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It features top-end specs such as a 4.7in in-plane switching touchscreen with an HD (1280x720, 312ppi) resolution, said to be responsive even when you're wearing gloves, and a 13Mp rear camera with BSI and HDR capability (plus a 1.3Mp front camera).
There's also near-field communication (NFC) and 4G LTE connectivity - the latter, Huawei claims, enables the Ascend P2 to offer download speeds up to 150Mbps.
In real terms, this means the Huawei Ascend P2 should be able to download HD movies in minutes, and load online videos, web pages, songs and e-books in seconds. Huawei also claims its proprietary "swift sharing" supports uploads and downloads two to three times faster than other smartphones over Wi-Fi. See our complete guide to 4G.
Huawei's Emotion user interface makes better use of the available screen space, combining all the information you need in a single customisable 'Me Widget'. It also offers housekeeping functionality, which supports real-time data traffic tracking, automatic blacklisting and blocking, periodical system cleaning, and spontaneous exiting of idle programs and cache cleanup, in addition to antivirus, energy saving, privacy protection, software management and more, according to Huawei.
The Ascend P2's 2,420mAh battery is combined with Huawei's Quick Power Control and Automated Discontinuous Reception power-saving technologies in an effort to reduce power consumption and charging time by more than 30 percent compared to rival smartphones.
"The Ascend P2 is the perfect combination of elegance and power, and further proof that there's no need to compromise when desiring a perfect smartphone. It is evidence of the outstanding smartphone experiences and great technology that we are committed to bringing to consumers globally," said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group.
