Acer Iconia Smart

There's around half a dozen hulking great smartphones with oversized screens about to hit the streets and as one of the first to make it to UK stores the Acer Iconia Smart looks set for a showdown with existing darlings such as the HTC Desire HD.

The Iconia Smart not only has a 4.8in display, it's an unusual 21:9 super-widescreen with a resolution of 1024x480 pixels. In practice, this means it needs an awfully deep pocket. Acer's thinking here is that there's less page down scrolling action and more information on show. Acer also says that no screen resizing is required, by which they seem to imply fast page rendering, which can only be a good thing.

Processor-wise, you get a 1GHz SnapDragon CPU, while there’s both an 8Mp main camera and a secondary 2Mp one. DNLA and HDMI are supported and connectivity in the form of Bluetooth EDR, Wi-Fi and HSDPA 3G are all covered. What we’ve yet to learn is the price, though Superetrader is taking a punt and offering £500 preorders.
