HTC Touch2 Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone

HTC Touch2 Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphoneHTC has launched its first Windows 6.5 smartphone. The Touch2 is one of the first handsets to sport Microsoft's brand-new mobile operating system, set for launch on 6 October.

The HTC Touch2 is a touchscreen device that "delivers a familiar touch experience that millions of people have come to expect and rely on from HTC in their daily lives," said HTC chief executive Peter Chou.

"Whether it's making a call, checking in with a friend or simply responding to an important email, the HTC Touch2 puts you in touch and in control."

The HTC Touch2 will make full use of Microsoft-developed features of the new mobile operating system including MyPhone - a web-based backup and portal service that allows users to store contacts, synchronises task lists and calendar entries as well as photos and other media.

The touchscreen handset is designed to broaden the appeal of HTC's Windows Mobile handset portfolio, making it simple to make calls, check and compose emails, browse the web and make use of social networking tools. Adobe Flash is supported and the HTC Touch2 is able to play YouTube video clips.

Text can be resized according to user preference and HTC has added a number of its usual enhancements including the TouchFLO interface that allows users to flick through menu items and quickly jump to Google Maps or details of the local weather.

In common with other Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets, the HTC Touch2 will go onsale in the UK and elsewhere in Europe on 6 October.

Yesterday, Microsoft confirmed that HTC, Acer, Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung and Toshiba will all be launching Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones in the UK.
