Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot 8.1Mp phone

Sony Ericsson has announced details of two new cameraphones: the C905 Cyber-shot and the S302 Snapshot.

The C905 Cyber-shot is an 8.1MP camera phone - the highest resolution Sony Ericsson has offered to date. The Cyber-shot has a built-in Xenon flash, 16x digital zoom, face detection, auto-focus, smart contrast and an image stabiliser functions.

Many of these features are now fairly standard in compact digital cameras but are unusual inclusions in a mobile phone. Sony Ericsson says it added them in order to offer users the chance to take some of the best shots possible.

The C905 has a 2.4in scratch-resistant mineral glass display, Wayfinder GPS functionality for photo geo-tagging and navigation support and Wi-Fi capability. The Wi-Fi function is designed to allow users to connect the phone to a TV wirelessly and display photographs.

The phone comes with a 2GB Memory Stick Micro and USB adaptor for connection to a PC. As well as the camera functions, it has an MP3 player and FM radio.

Available in three colours; Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold, the C905 will hit the UK in Q4 of 2008.

The S302, meanwhile, features a 2Mp camera with photo light and photo-fix functions to help users light and edit the shots correctly. The phone, which comes in Crystal Blue and Thunder Grey, has a 20MB internal memory. Additional shots can be stored on a Memory Stick Micro card. Both cameraphones have a 2.5x digital zoom.

"The C905 Cyber-shot and S302 Snapshot have been developed to make us all better photographers. That means making it easier to take great shots and never missing that magic moment," said Sven Totté, head of imaging marketing at Sony Ericsson.

Both handsets are due to go onsale in the UK by the end of the year.
