Asus has announced its Transformer Book, a convertible Ultrabook.

At the Computex conference Asus unveiled its hybrid Transformer Book.  The device is a Windows 8 Ultrabook laptop with a detachable touchscreen to convert it into a tablet in the same way that its Android powered Transformer Prime does.

Asus said it is: "the world’s first convertible ultrabook — allowing users to instantly switch between an ultrabook and a tablet by simply detaching the screen."

"It is aimed at users who prefer the portability of a multi-touch tablet computer for leisure, but still want access to a more traditional Windows-based ultrabook for productivity use." it added.

The Transformer Book will come with the 'latest' Intel Core i7 processor with discrete graphics, SSD and hard drive storage, 4GB DDR3 RAM and USB 3.0. It also has dual cameras and Asus SonicMaster technology for improved sound.

Asus said the Transformer Book will be available in 11.6in, 13in or 14in sizes with a full-HD IPS multi-touch display. The firm also announced the Asus Taichi, a dual-screen Ultrabook hybrid.
