Acer has announced its Aspire S7 Series touchscreen Ultrabooks at Computex in Teipei.

The firm is just one of many vendors announcing Windows 8 Ultrabooks and tablets at the conference. The Aspire S7 will be available in two sizes, 11.6in and 13.3in, both with full-HD touchscreens.

Acer said: "With the aluminum unibody design, the S7 Ultrabooks are exceptionally slim and light, yet durable enough to handle the rigors of everyday use."

Both models use an aluminium unibody shell and the 13.3in model has an additional glass cover and a 12 hour battery life. The 11.6in S7 has a slightly lower battery life of 9 hours. Acer said they use Twin Air cooling to make the most of the 'performance components'.

The Aspire S7 folds completely flat but the screen doesn’t detach like the Asus Transformer Book which was also announced at the show.

We're waiting for a specification sheet but Acer said the laptops feature "a light-sensing keyboard, which automatically detects changes in lighting conditions and adjusts the keyboard backlight brightness."
