Lenovo has introduced its ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch, an Ultrabook laptop with Windows 8.

As the name suggests, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch is made from carbon fibre and designed for touch input. Lenovo said the Windows 8 Ultrabook will arrive in January priced at £1,525 excluding VAT. See also: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon review

Peter Hortensius, president of Lenovo Product Group, said: "Bringing touch gesture control to our best ThinkPad ever is a natural evolution of the portfolio and a big step towards fulfilling our promise to bring computers into a new PC+ era,"

Lenovo claims the X1 Carbon Touch is world's lightest 14in touch notebook at 1.5kg. The laptop is 20.8mm thick and comes with an optional slim 17mm power adaptor.

As well as the 14in 10-point HD+ touchscreen, the X1 Carbon Touch has a multi-gesture glass touchpad. Security features include vPro, an integrated fingerprint reader, trusted platform module and BIOS encryption.

Lenovo touts the industry's fastest charge times thanks to RapidCharge and an eight hour battery life. There will also be an optional 3G model.

Hortensius added that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch is "the Ultrabook to beat."
