Asus has announced a new 14in-screen Windows 7 Professional laptop that packs a surprising amount of graphics processing power: the Asus A46 comes primed with 1GB of nVidia GeForce GT540M DDR3 memory. This is paired with an Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor, a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM. The 64bit Windows 7 laptop has a 1366x768-pixel display and an HDMI input so it can be hooked up to high-definition media sources. USB 3.0 ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VGA webcam, Ethernet, media card slots and a 10-hour battery all feature.

The lithium-ion battery can be further bolstered with USB+ - a feature that Asus says enables faster charging of USB devices plugged in to the laptop. The USB+ charging function works even if the Asus A46 is switched off.
The laptop is just 24.5mm thick and, says Asus, has the thinnest 14in notebook panel currently available. The laptop is clad in aluminium and weighs 2.08kg. It costs £699 inc VAT and will be sold through Comet.
