Asus G74Sx 17.3in Republic of Gaming laptop launches

Laptop has 1.5TB HDD, nVidia GTX 560M graphics, optional 3D

Asus has started selling a new Republic of Gaming high-spec laptop. The G74Sx has a minimum of 8GB of DDR3 RAM and comes with 3D as an optional extra. It runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and can store more than a terabyte of data. The gaming laptop was first unveiled at the Computex trade show in Taipei in June.

Asus has a loyal following for its Republic of Gaming high-performance laptops, so this new model is big news. It’s a 17.3in screen model with at least 8GB of RAM, a 1.5TB hard drive and is powered by a quad-core 2GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM processor. The laptop also boasts nVidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics, a Blu-ray drive and 1920x1080p screen, plus backlit keyboard and powerful speakers. The 3D overlay is an optional extra. To this, Asus adds a toolless chassis for easy upgrades. At the rear is a grille through which air is pulled to help dissipate some of the inevitable heat that’s generated.

Pricing starts around the £1600 mark. Asus' own Asus Outlet store is offering a 8GB version of the G74Sx with 3D, two 750GB hard drives and a 3G nVidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics chip for £1,699 inc VAT. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 2Mp webcam and a Blu-ray rewriter drive all feature.
