Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop sports slim frame

Dolby Home Theatre and HD video capture on a slimline ThinkPad

Lenovo has announced its thinnest ThinkPad laptop to date. The ThinkPad X1 is described as a crossover device as it seeks to fulfil the traditional business functions with which the ThinkPad brand is synonymous, and to be a compelling entertainment laptop.

The 13.3in-screen laptop is a mere 17mm thick and weighs just under 1.7kg. Models in the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 range come with Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. A 3G mobile broadband module is also offered as an option on the Windows 7 laptop. The screen has an above average brightness rating of 300 NITS and is made of tough Gorilla Glass – a  scratch-proof component found on some robust tablets.

Entertainment duties that distinguish the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 from its business-centric laptop counterparts include a 720p video capture mode, Dolby Home Theatre v4 audio support and an HDMI port so it can be hooked up to a projector or HDTV. Connectivity is also provided in the form of Intel Wireless Display.
