ViewSonic 13.3in ViewBook Pro laptop

ViewSonic has started selling the 13.3in ViewBook Pro it first announced back in October. An "ultra-thin" laptop that runs Windows 7, the ViewBook Pro looks likely to compete head-to-head with the Apple MacBook Air.

It is also an interesting - and much cheaper - alternative to the £1,750 Dell Adamo XPS sub-10mm-thick that has just gone onsale at John Lewis.

As with the MacBook Air the ViewBook Pro has a magnesium-alloy chassis. This encases an Intel Core 2 Duo 7300 1.3GHz processor along with 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.

Even though it's just 17mm thick, ViewSonic has manaegd to squeeze an optical drive into the 1.6kg Viewbook Pro (not included on the entrylevel model). However, ViewSonic does include Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi and wireless LAN plus an HDMI connection for hooking it up to an external high-definition screen. The ViewBook Pro has a multi-finger trackpad, a seven-in-one card reader and a 1.3Mp webcam.

Priced at £699 or £729 with an integrated optical drive, the ViewBook Pro comes in silver and black and is available now.

ViewSonic has also introduced 12, 13.3 and 14in models into its ViewBook range.

The 12in ViewBook 120 is powered by a 1.3GHz Intel Duo Core SU2300, while users of the 13.3in ViewBook 130 can choose from three different processor options ; the Intel ULV743, the Intel Pentium Duo Core 4100 and the Core 2 Duo 7300, which also features in the 14in ViewBook 140.

All three laptops, which run Windows 7, feature 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, a seven-in-one card reader, wireless and bluetooth connectivity and a 1.3Mp webcam.

The ViewBook 120 costs £429 while prices for the ViewBook 130 start from £499 and the ViewBook 140 costs £629.
