Toshiba has announced details of the new R500 and M700 Portégé laptops, which will be available from Q2 of 2008.
The R500-12S is a super-lightweight laptop, which Toshiba claims features the world’s first 128GB SSD (solid-state memory) drive. And according to the laptop manufacturer, solid state drives are more robust and less susceptible to mechanical damage or failure, as they have no moving or spinning parts. This is an upgrade to the R500-12S’s predecessor, the Portégé R500-126, which offered 64GB of solid state storage.
The R500 benefits from an Intel Core2 Duo U7700 processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 12in Transflective LED backlit screen and Windows Vista Business edition.
Prices are expected to start from £1,599 (excluding VAT) for the R500-12S.
