PS4 users will finally be able to play Rise of the Tomb Raider in October. Square Enix has announced that, in addition to new content for Xbox One and PC players, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released for PS4 later this year as a 20 Year Celebration edition. Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to the popular Tomb Raider reboot from 2013, developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. Controversially, during Gamescom 2014, it was revealed that the new game would be exclusive to Xbox, but the good news for PS4 users is that the exclusivity was only for a year. Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 release date: When is Rise of the Tomb Raider coming out on PS4?

As suspected, Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to PS4 just short of one year on from its release on Xbox One: 11 October 2016. It will be a 20 Year Celebration edition, with the full game and the additional content that has been released since the game's initial launch. You'll also get an art book if you pre-order the game, which you can do from Zavvi right now.

In addition, the 20 Year Celebration edition will include a new Extreme Survivor difficulty and other new playable content including a new story called Blood Ties that you can play in VR using the PlayStation VR. There's also a zombie chapter called Lara's Nightmare, as well as a new co-op Endurance mode. And as a fun extra, you'll even be able to play as classic polygonal Lara Croft in Expedition mode.

If you already purchased the Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass on Xbox One or PC will get access to the extra content (aside from the VR version of Blood Ties) on 11 October too.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: Minimum specs for PC

Minimum requirements for PC are as follows:

  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD equivalent
  • Nvidia GTX 650 (2GB) or AMD Radeon HD7770 (2GB)
  • 6GB RAM
  • 25GB disk space
  • DirectX 11

This means the game can run on most mid-spec PCs.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: Gameplay & new features

ROTTR's story picks up from where the first game left off.

"In her first adventure, Lara Croft was forged into a true survivor, but she glimpsed a deeper, secret world," reads the Xbox website. "In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider."
