Back in March 2015, Square Enix reassured fans that there was new IP (Intellectual Property) in development, namely an RPG (Role Playing Game). The company has since announced Project Setsuna, a game being developed by Square Enix’s internal studio Tokyo RPG factory. What is Project Setsuna? What can we expect from this new IP? Read on and find out.

Project Setsuna: What is Project Setsuna?

Though Project Setsuna has technically been announced, there aren’t many details about the game. In fact, the only thing that’s been said about the upcoming RPG is that it’s meant as a nod to the “good old days” of Japanese role playing games. At a time where remakes (Final Fantasy 7 remake being a prime example) and sequels are all the rage, it’s refreshing for a company to concentrate on bringing something completely new to the table.

So, what can we expect from Project Setsuna? No one is entirely sure, but based on the three screenshots that were shown at its announcement, we can assume that it’ll have a very unique look and feel to it – think traditional hand-painted scenery mixed with anime. Again, this is purely speculation based on the information provided to us at its announcement and the developers could decide to take a different artistic route.

Project Setsuna: When is Project Setsuna due to be released?

So, when will you be able to play this mysterious Japanese RPG? Tokyo RPG Factory has said that Project Setsuna should be available for worldwide release at some point in 2016, but didn’t narrow it down any further than that.

The same goes for platforms and pricing – neither were discussed at the announcement, so it looks like we’ll just have for Square Enix to release more details. Make sure you check back from time to time, as we’ll be updating this article with new information as soon as we have it!
