Angry Birds 2 release date: When is Angry Birds 2 coming out?

In 2009 the world saw the release of one of the most acclaimed mobile games, Angry Birds.

It seized hold of the top of the charts but a full sequel has never been released. Rovio Entertainment opted instead for a host of by-product mobile games, toys and other merchandise.

Finally, the sequel is here, available to Android and iOS users from 30 July.

Angry Birds 2 price: How much will Angry Birds 2 cost?

Angry Birds and its spin-off series are free to play games and Angry Birds 2 continues that trend. However a free to play policy has caused many troubles to Rovio Entertainment.

Rovio’s revenues have seen a considerable increase between 2010 and 2012, but flattened in 2013 and felt in 2014. In October 2014, the company had to dismiss 16% of its personnel.

This reflects the harshness of the free to play universe; Rovio cannot compete with the higher attainments of profitable games such as Clash of Clans and Candy Crash Saga.

Angry Birds 2: How to get free lives in Angry Birds 2

Despite the game itself being free, Angry Birds 2 has seen some early criticism from fans due to its new life system, which requires you to make an in-app purchase or wait 30 minutes for your character to regenerate.

We've previously got round this system in games such as Candy Crush by moving the time forward on our phone or tablet. You can do that in Angry Birds 2 as well, moving the time forward by half an hour to get free lives - just remember to roll it back when you finish playing before you get yourself into a pickle.

Angry Birds 2: Why we can expect a lot from Angry Birds 2

Angry Birds 2 is ‘bigger, baddier, birdier’, according to Rovio.

Rovio will be relying hugely on Angry Birds 2 being a success because of the problems faced by the company.

The classic game, where you have to launch birds against evil pigs, has new content, features and design.

Rovio Entertainment is also about to launch an Angry Birds animated movie in 2016. If Angry Birds 2’s proves popular, that should help to guarantee the success of the film.
