Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel

Will be launched alongside Forza Motorsport 4

Microsoft showed off a new wireless steering wheel accessory for the Xbox yesterday, as part of its yearly Christmas product showcase.

The Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel will be launched alongside Forza Motorsport 4 on the Xbox, and is designed to provide accurate steering with plenty of freedom of movement. If you're thinking of Wii Mario Kart steering wheels, think again: Microsoft's product is weighted in the centre, giving it nice balance and stopping it from ballooning around as you steer.

As you can see in the photo below, the wheel incorporates the usual four colour-coded Xbox buttons and silver button, as well as a D-pad, so you can navigate game menus without having to swap controller.

Microsoft boasts that the wheel is compatible with all racing games out of the box, and says it offers haptic feedback - that's 'rumble' to me and you.

We rather like the weight and balance of the Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel, but more comprehensive testing will be needed to produce the definitive verdict. Stay tuned for a full review in due course.

The Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel will be launched in the UK in October 2011, with an estimated retail price of £44.99.
