Spore game for Mac and iPhone

Legendary The Sims creator Will Wright has come up with a brand-new game, launched today. Spore not only allows players to control characters but to create them and populate other players' worlds with them too.

Wright and software publisher EA clearly think the idea has potential: it's one of the few games that's been written for Mac users to enjoy as well as us well-provisioned Windows gamers.

Spore launches today for Mac and the iPhone as well as for the PC.

While the idea reminds me somewhat of CreatureLabs' now defunct but hugely fun Creatures series, it's far broader in scope and ambition. You start off with a single-cell organism and see it develop and evolve until it eventually becomes a fully sentient being capable of social interaction.
