EchoStar unveils Ultra Slim Box (HDT-610R) PVR

A super slim Freeview+ HD personal video recorder

EchoStar has announced its Ultra Slim Box (HDT-610R), the world's slimmest personal video recorder (PVR).

With a slender 14mm aluminium chassis, EchoStar is calling the Ultra Slim Box the world's slimmest PVR. It will go up for pre-order tomorrow from retailers including Amazon, John Lewis and Maplin but no prices have been revealed yet.

Rhod Williams, senior vice president of EchoStar said: "We pride ourselves on challenging the status quo to create truly inspirational products,"
"The Ultra Slim Box represents the coming of age for the DVR and is the perfect complement to the latest range of ultra slim TVs."

The Ultra Slim Box offers Freeview+ HD and using a 500GB hard drive is able to pause and rewind TV as well as record it. It has an HDMI output and a twin tuner so one program can be recorded at the same time as watching another.

It also has access to on-demand services like BBC iPlayer and BoxOffice 365 via its Ethernet port and has two USB ports.

Unfortunately the HDT-610R doesn't come integrated with EchoStar's TV anywhere Slingbox hardware for streaming content to devices like tablets and smartphones. EchoStar told us that the Ultra Slim Box is simply too thin to fit the technology in.
