Philips Cinema 21:9 Platinum

The jury is still out on 3D TVs and 3D films, but supersized flatscreen TVs have proved a blockbuster hit.

This 58in LED-backlit screen is both giant and 3D-enabled and is a revision of the Cinemascope screen Philips unveiled to much applause last year. The Cinema Platinum apes the proportions of a screening room display, has no ugly black bars at the top or bottom and has a set of powerful speakers embedded within its brushed-aluminium cabinet.

Four HDMI inputs, DNLA support, Scart, USB and D-Sub connectors are all included. You can also use Wi-Fi or the Ethernet port and stream video to the Cinema 21:9 over a home network. There's the slight matter of the £4,000 price tag, but otherwise we're sold. If only we had a US-style 'snug' in which to hunker down and enjoy this amazing-looking Philips silver screen.
