PC World has launched a new laptop range under its Advent brand. The Advent Altro is an ultraportable with a thickness of just 21mm - giving it the edge in the svelte stakes over other sub-£600 models.
The £599 Advent Altro mimics models such as the iconic Apple MacBook Air by having a 13.3in screen and has a touchpad that can recognise users' gestures. The Altro runs off an Intel ULV (ultra-low voltage) processor and comes with 3GB of RAM.
The Windows Vista machine comes with a free upgrade to Windows 7. The Altro goes onsale through PC World and other Dixons Store Group stores including Currys and Dixons from 24 August. Windows 7 launches worldwide on 22 October.
The standard Advent Altro will come with 120GB hard disk and sport Bluetooth and a webcam along with built-in Wi-Fi and a port replicator that adds two more USB ports.
A more sophisticated model, the Altro Elite, will have a flush glass finish, swap the Intel Centrino processor for a Core 2 Solo chip and offer a longer battery life. The Advent Altro Elite will cost £799.99 inc VAT.
