The Satellite A500 models will be sold with either AMD or Intel processors and will cost from £599. Options include a 2.53GHz Intel Core2 Duo P8700 or a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500. Whether Intel or AMD-powered, all A500 laptops will have a least 2GB of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics and come with 500GB hard drives and a Super Multi Dual-Layer DVD. A TV tuner will be an optional extra.
Toshiba says all will the Satellite A500 models will ship with Windows Vista Home Premium and will have 16:9 aspect ratio 16in screens with a native resolution of 1366x768. Slot-loading DVD drives and Harmon Kardon speakers will distinguish them from some other entertainment-centric laptops.
Some A500 models will have backlit keyboards, while all the 2009 Satellite laptops will have backlit LCD screens. The A500 and U500 laptops will also support multi-touch gestures for easier navigation.
Power management options will include an Eco Utility and an Eco Tool that can be used to reduce screen brightness and cut down on other battery-draining functions.
