Viewsonic VPC100 all-in-one-PC

Viewsonic has officially unveiled the VPC100 all-in-one PC for the UK market. We first saw the VPC100 at CES where Viewsonic was discussing a definite US launch but was less certain that the integrated device would make it to Europe.

The VPC100 has an 19in flatpanel display with 16:9 aspect ratio, a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of onboard memory. Powered by an Intel Atom processor, the 18mm-thick VPC100 is the first in a planned line of nettop PCs that Viewsonic says it will launch this year.

Not entirely coincidentally, given that today is Earth Day, Viewsonic is touting the green credentials of its spacesaving PC: choosing an all-in-one device over a separate PC chassis and screen means 50 percent less plastic is required.

The Viewsonic VPC100 has a 1.3Mp webcam, a pair of 3 Watt speakers and a four-in-one card reader, along with gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 a, b and g wireless.

Most companies that have jumped on the nettop and all-in-one PC bandwagon so far have been traditional laptop or PC makers; Viewsonic, however, is a screen specialist, so we expect the VPC100 to have a superior display. Viewsonic is touting a 5 millisecond response time and viewing angles of 160 degrees vertically and horizontally on the antiglare 1,366x768-pixel display.

The £499 PC will go onsale in May. For more details, see www.viewsonic.co.uk.
