Gadget manufacturer Veho has launched a 4GB portable video player it's touting as an MP5 player.
The Veho Quinque offers MP3 playback, Mpeg4 video, the latter with no need to re-encode content for playback.
In addition to being a music and video player, the Quinque includes an FM tuner and a photo viewer.
The 4GB Veho Quinque has a 3in LCD colour display on which photos and video are shown at 480x234 pixels. The player natively supports the WMA, MP3 and WAV major audio formats as well as the AVI and RealMedia video formats. In addition, the Quinque is able to play RMVB (RealMedia variable bitrate) tracks.
However, it can't play DRM-free iTunes songs – a shame given that Veho is pushing the player's compatibility with Macs as well as Vista PCs.
An 8-band graphic equaliser gives the user plenty of control over the audio output. Presets can be selected both for music playback and for FM radio stations.
The Quinque also supports e-Books – something still not that common on portable media players. However, we're reserving our judgment on the usability of this feature until we’ve had a chance to try out this intriguing piece of gadgetry for ourselves.
The Veho Quinque charges via a mini USB 2.0 port (compatible with USB 1.1 as well as 2.0) and tracks, photos and video clips can be loaded directly on to its 4GB flash memory this way.
