Marantz is adding Apple AirPlay music streaming capabilities to four of its music receivers via a firmware upgrade that will be available from November.

Marantz says the ¢49 optional upgrade will make its range of home audio devices the first in the world to be compatible with Apple's AirPlay music streaming service.

AirPlay lets users stream music throughout your entire house – wirelessly, with a number of leading manufacturers signing up to integrate the software into speaker docks, AV receivers and stereo systems. AirPlay works over Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection, or a combination of both.

The Marantz Melody Media 'all-in-one' music system, allows users to stream music from their iTunes collections to the Marantz system simply.

The Melody Media comes with a CD drive - supporting regular, as well as CDR/RW, and MP3 and WMA encoded discs. The unit comes with a 50 pre-set-equipped DAB/DAB+ and FM/AM tuner for listening to radio channels.

A direct USB digital connection for iPod or iPhone, promises to take a pure audio signal straight from the device to the Melody Media's high-grade audiophile circuitry. The system comes with two stereo amplifiers, each with two 60W outputs that Marantz say are able to deliver a "chassis-defying" 120W.

The Marantz design offers connectivity to the Internet or your Mac/PC via the rear panel’s Ethernet input. The DLNA 1.5 certified Melody Media plays thousands of internet radio stations free-of-charge, as well as every music file stored on your PC or NAS drive claims the audio specialists.

The unit comes Napster and Last.fm- enabled as well, with Last.fm intelligently recommending new music via its unique 'scrobbling' technology. The service lets users keep a record of what they listen to, harnessing 43+ billion pieces of music taste information to recommend music to more than 40 million users across 12 languages in more than 200 countries.

Finally, the M-XPort allows you to stream computer-stored music via Bluetooth using the optional RX101 Bluetooth Receiver.

The Marantz Melody Media will be available from later this month for £499.90.
