Sonos enters home cinema with Playbar sound bar speaker
The Playbar is Sonos' latest bit of wireless HiFi equipment for the home. The sound bar speaker will launch on 5 March priced at £599. See also Group test: what's the best speaker set?

"Playbar will change everything about the sound experience in your living room, bringing together amazing HiFi sound for your TV and wireless access to the world’s music in a radically simple way."
Although the Sonos system is designed to be wireless, the Playbar connects to a TV via an optical port. The Playbar will still hook up to an existing Sonos system via a Bridge meaning it can be used like a Play:3 or Play:5 speaker.
The Sonos system allows users to stream music from multiple sources including PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad plus internet radio stations and services like Spotify.
Sonos has fitted the Playbar with nine individually amplified drivers, six are mid-range woofers and three are high-range tweeters. The Playbar is made from aluminum and speaker fabric.
There's no subwoofer but customers can pair the Playbar with the Sonos Sub for dedicated bass. You can also add a pair of Play:3 speakers for wireless 5.1 surround sound.
Sonos has also released version 4.0 of its app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The app brings a new favourties section, a widget for Android devices and optimization the iPhone 5's screen.
