Kidz Gear sound-limiting headphones debut

Entertain the kids without damaging their hearing

Kidz Gear has unveiled a pair of sound-limiting headphones that are especially designed for use by youngsters. The Kidz Gear Wired headphones for Kids have a line-in connector and a volume adjustment rocker on the cable. This presumably allows a parent to mute playback and have a quiet word or to turn down the sound a notch. See also: Best headphones for kids

The Wired Headphones for Kids have been designed to work with Apple iPod and iPhone products and were first shown at last week’s Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Children have more sensitive hearing than adults, meaning that it is more likely to be damaged by loud noise. Earphones and headphones have been identified as a particular risk since audio is delivered directly to the ear.

Apple will stock the Kidz Gear headphones, which cost $39. UK pricing is not yet available. Kidz Gear also sells infrared volume-limited headphones for in-car use and wired headphones without the mute/volume buttons on the cable.

Griffin and JVC also offer headphones for kids that have sound-limiting credentials.
