Vita Audio R1 MkII DAB radio

There are portable radios you plonk on a shelf and enjoy the improved reception of DAB over FM and then there are portable radios you want to show off. The Vita Audio R1 MkII is the latter type, joining the likes of the Logitech Squeezebox Boom and the Monitor Audio Airstream in the desirability stakes.

Clad in solid walnut wood and encased in real leather, the Vita Audio R1 builds on its credentials as "the Aston Martin of DAB radios" (Sunday Telegraph's take on its predecessor) with FM, DAB, DAB+ and an alarm mere features. The real wow is the sound, alloyed with the exceptional design. A custom-tuned 3.5in high-fidelity drive unit powers the 9 Watt speakers. As well as radio stations the redesigned R1 can play music from an MP3 player or other auxiliary device.

The Vita Audio R1 Mk II DAB radio costs £160 for the walnut finish or £180 for the white or red lacquer versions. Retro fans will also want to consider the leather CarryCase for the R1 which costs a further £39.
