Viewsonic MovieBook VPD500 media player

Viewsonic MovieBook VPD500 media playerViewsonic has unveiled two MovieBook media players that support high-definition video. The MovieBook VPD500 and VPD400 have 5in and 4.3in screens, respectively, and can play 720p video.

The two MovieBooks have screen resolutions of 800x480 pixels and come primed with 8GB of onboard memory. The larger of the two models has a high-capacity 1900mAh battery that enables it to play four hours of video before needing to be recharged.

Alternatively, as much as 15 hours of music can be played – though the screen must be off to achieve this sort of battery performance. Supported music and video formats include MP3, WMA, AVI, RMVB, FLV, WAV, APE and FLAC. A microSD card slot can be used to transfer video, photos and music to the MovieBooks. The MovieBook VPD400, meanwhile, is designed for maximum portability and weighs a scant 134g.

Both MovieBooks will go onsale next month for £105 for the 4.3in VPD400 media player and £115 for the 5in VPD500 model.
