Sony NWZ-A820 Bluetooth video MP3 player

Sony has announced a Bluetooth-enabled version of its micro video MP3 player, the Sony NWZ-A820.

A popular alternative to Apple's iPod video, the latest addition to the Sony Walkman-branded video MP3 player range will come in either 4GB or 8GB versions.

The 4GB version of the Sony NWZ-A820 slimline black music player will store up to 15 hours of video or 925 songs while the 8GB model should hold up to 30 hrs 40 mins of video or 1,850 songs. Sony has yet to confirm pricing.

The new player joins an existing line-up of Walkman-branded micro video players Sony sells, including the NWZ-A818 and the A805, reviewed here.

The NWZ-A820 features a large 2.4in QVGA screen with 30fps (frames per second) playback and the capability of vertical and left and right horizontal screen orientation. With Bluetooth capability, audio files complete with track and artist data can be streamed from the NWZ-A820 through a Bluetooth stereo-enabled micro hi-fi or speaker system. The 'one-touch' button located on the side of player allows users to connect the NWZ-A820 to be connected with other Bluetooth devices quickly and easily.

Sony claim the battery offers 10 hours of video playback or 15 hours of audio playback and even with the bluetooth connection enabled, it can offer 7 hours of video or 15 hours of music.

The NWZ-A820 supports WMA, AAC, MP3 and PCM audio files along with AVC (H.264/AVC) and Mpeg4 video files and Jpeg photo files, which can be viewed as slideshows and accompanied by music.

A five-band equaliser, VPT Acoustic Engine, Dynamic Normaliser and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, which restores high frequencies that are degraded by audio compression, feature on the music player to ensure it offers a crystal clear sound as close to the original as possible.

The NWZ-A820 comes bundled with Sony's wireless DR-BT21G bluetooth headphones, 13.5mm EX headphones and Sony Media Manager for Walkman software which can be used to transfer digital music files from a PC to the NWZ-A820. Alternatively users can drag-and-drop files from a PC to the music player via Windows Media Player 11.
