Apple iPod touch

The phoneless iPhone

No one was surprised when Apple announced it was launching a touchscreen version of the iPod.

Having hyped the Apple iPhone to the heavens, the iPod Touch hardly needed introducing. Songs can be downloaded over the air from the updated (Wi-Fi-enabled) iTunes Store and selected with ease using the same multi-touch interface the phone sports. Google Search, Yahoo oneSearch and the Safari web browser come preinstalled on this, Apple’s first Wi-Fi MP3 player.

The iPod Touch’s 3.5in widescreen display lets users view photos, album art and video and, for those of us who live in the UK now as well as the US, TV shows they’ve bought from Jobs’ lot. Up to 22 hours music playback and five hours of video on a battery charge are promised.

£199 for 8GB version; £269 for 16GB model.
